I Can’t Learn Fast Enough

Things are really moving fast. A couple of years ago, I noticed that there were a few new free tools, only because I was doing a lot of searching in Google for answers to some questions I had at work: Power query, Power View, Power BI. I was able to download Power query and Power BI and play around with them but since most of my co-workers had no need for such advanced tools I really couldn’t proceed far with them, especially with Power BI. Power query might have been useful for my own personal use but in the context of others using it, not so much.

Today my company had gone in to Microsoft 365 and some of the business intelligence tools, so I now get to play with Power BI without worrying whether I’m wasting company time.

But when I google now, there are so many advanced things you can do with Power BI. I’m behind the curve.

Also, there’s Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Flow (I think that is an automation workflow but I haven’t had a chance to check it out).

Then there’s YouTube where I’m learning that PowerPoint has advanced into transitions and animations such as Morphe. There’s lots of cool features that I want to play with, although I don’t really have much need for PowerPoint. Then there’s Leila Gharani who produces videos on Excel. One item I learned from her: last fall Microsoft rolled out some new Excel features that makes creating or using Array formulas so much easier. All of these new features requires the use of Office 365, which we might use at work although my work machine still uses the desktop Excel 2013 because a lot of my work incorporates macros to get rid of heavy repetitive stuff.

So I’m behind, behind. This weekend I hope to finish up the Mueller report and get much further along on developing my notes on Never Quit Learning.

And look at some more videos – all for learning of course.

Today I’ve been having WiFi problems and I thought it was Microsoft trying to do one of its updates. But no it was Dropbox doing one of their infernal updates that shuts down my WiFi. When it’s doing an update, I can do only one thing at a time on the WiFi. It might be the same with Microsoft but not nearly to the same degree.
