More Scary AI Stories

It seems like every day there are more and more stories about AI replacing people to perform tasks.

The latest ones pertain to the government layoffs instituted by DOGE. It is said that Elon dreams of replacing people with AI to increase government efficiency. Forbes reports that story in “Musk replacing workers with AI: should you be worried?”

I think that is a serious question to ask because once government start modernizing its workforce, the private sector will be compelled to do the same.

The problem is I don’t think we are creating enough jobs to absorb the unemployed workers. There is also the issue of training these workers so they can operate in the new AI dominated world.

We run the risk of throwing people to the streets with no plan on how to get them redeployed. Already, Musk is just firing people without care and has had to rehire some of them because the government actually needs them. Or maybe it was the DOGE teenagers who were do the hasty firings.

They are supposed to be geniuses though.

I always remember the story about the time at Rice University when I was younger. One weekend, some smart geniuses thought it was a brilliant idea to throw refrigerators off the top floor of the residential building. When you are immature, you do dumb stuff.

In the GSA, DOGE has already deployed an AI app but I’m getting the sense that there may be issues. Inc’s article “DOGE’s AI App Replacing Fired Federal Workers Proves ‘About as Good as an Intern’” covers that angle. As the title says it, the remaining workers are not very impressed.

Bill Gates himself thinks that AI will probably perform most of the jobs in the future.

Fallon then asked the question that was likely on everyone’s mind: ‘I mean, will we still need humans?’

‘Uh, not for most things,’ Gates said, prompting Fallon to put his hands up to his mouth in shock.
