Redesign Project
Short post today but I forgot to mention yesterday that I am working on redesigning the visual format of some things for work. They are just superficial visual effects but I want to tie in with the new branding effort the company has undertaken. (I’d discuss more about the rebranding effort but I don’t think the company has actually begun using the new logo or the new colors yet. I’m waiting for the website to come online.) Also, I want to get rid of the typical loud Microsoft spreadsheets with the bright blue and yellow cells and the boxed outlines. Hopefully the version I have will be more restful on the eyes.
The part I’m struggling with is that some of the things we do is just a bunch of numbers – pages and pages of numbers. While all of the numbers are necessary for each department, I’m struggling with how to reduce the information into a readily absorbed picture of what’s going on.
So for right now I’ve just done the superficial.
Also, I did finish up reading about the HTML in my …For Dummies book and I didn’t really learn much that I can immediately use. I did learn about image maps which I now have an idea of how it’s done but I can’t think of when I might use it. Then there was also a discussion on the use of video and audio media which I don’t use much either. If I do use video, I’m currently just embedding the code the YouTube offers, so that’s not much of an issue.
Really, the main thing that I’ve been wanting to do was the layout of images and text and that appears to be the use of CSS. So that’s the reading for this week.
