Secrets

We all have secrets. Some have skeletons in the closet. Some are harmless, some should be harmless. Some are minor, and some are consequential.

And this week, it looks like we’re dealing with a consequential one: one dealing with nuclear and intelligence information. Top secret information.

At first, when news about the search warrant being applied on Monday first came out, I wondered how serious the documents were. The initial descriptions I read were dinner menus, love letters from North Korea, things of that nature. It didn’t seem all that serious to apply a search warrant and maybe the house search was a bit intrusive and heavy handed. Couldn’t the FBI have tried talking to the lawyers to retrieve the documents?

Then, I later read that the FBI and prosecutors did try asking for the documents back and didn’t get anywhere or maybe got a few boxes.

But someone told them there were still more.

So, out came the subpoena and that still didn’t work.

Again, are those documents really worth all of those effort at getting them back?

Yesterday came the shocking news that the secrets pertained to nuclear. Okay, now this is serious.

Why would he need those types of documents? I understand the souvenir type documents – dinner menus, love letters, etc. – but nuclear information should stay with the government and not be in someone’s basement. This stuff deals with life and death.

Why would he want to have those documents in his residence/clubhouse? It’s not like he’s going to read them for pleasure. I wish his supporters would wake up and see the gravity of this situation. I understand, although I don’t agree with, the idea of FBI maybe playing politics or revenge, but we’re talking about classified information and nuclear information (which I assume is also classified). Come on! This is serious!
