So, we’re in fall now – what is coronavirus doing?

And here’s China:

I had wanted to post this over the weekend, but I got busy with other stuff. Been meaning to do this yesterday, too, but was distracted. So now, I’m catching up.

It’s time for a follow up to see what the “condition on the ground” looks like, especially since we are deep into fall. The graph above shows cases as of 12/2/2022 in each of the major continents. Despite the fact that the case data may not be collected as diligently as last year, the charts show most continents undergoing a rise in the number of cases.

In the last few days, the US started to go up also.

Is this the surge?

I don’t know. The last real surge took place around January of 2022, so this surge may be too early, although we have to consider the fact that most everybody (other than China) are pretty much living their life just like before the pandemic: no social distancing, no masking, visiting everybody without much concern. Everybody is tired of trying to take precautions.

Today I did a pull on hospitalization data and all regions of the US are going up. This data might be mixed with the flu and the RSV, which are also floating around.

And finally, here’s a chart on the top 10 countries in the world, cumulatively over the last 14 days:

Japan really sticks out. China is also on this chart. And Czech Republic is surprisingly on the chart, too. I did a brief check against another database (JHU) and did not see anything off. But it is just strange that dramatic jump in numbers.

All in all, countries around the world are gradually seeing increases.

Other news, while I’m posting: I’m glad the midterm elections are over and that the election deniers did not continue to pursue the notion that the election was rigged. Except for one or two in Arizona – they are still bellyaching and trying to do-over. But everyone else decided that since they did not have incontrovertible evidence, they could not take their complaints to the courts.

The other thing I’m relieved about is that violence did not break out. I was worried that Arizona would be reporting lots of violence or at least the threats of violence. Instead, the midterm election passed peacefully. I’m glad the extremists became level-headed upon losing and decided not to waste their time and money on lies.

The things I worry about.

The other piece of news is that hurricane season is over, although it is still abnormally warm so I can’t relax. Right now, nothing is brewing but there has been an above normal temperature where I live. Just because the season ends in November doesn’t mean a storm could not appear in December.
