Terrifying
The chart for Asia is terrifying which is that blue line shooting straight up, higher than anything seen before. (All of these data for 4/17/2021 are coming from Wikipedia – see below.)

The big contributor to that horrifying rise in cases is India and then Turkey. Here are some charts for the top 10 countries in the world in terms of cases and deaths.
India is the purple line and I’ve circled the rising slope for both cases and deaths. Cumulative cases are showing a definite hard upturn while deaths are not far behind. I can see the curve beginning to shift upward with a steeper slope rather than a gentle slope. The bright blue line for the deaths is Brazil, one of the bête noire countries.
And finally, here’s the Asia charts with the breakout into its constituent countries. Here you can see India leading the pack with Turkey (red line) and Iran (green line) showing a troubling rise in the slope in recent days.

Every night I look at these images and wonder about what happened. India were doing fairly well considering the size and general poverty of the country. But now, it looks worse than Brazil. Recent news suggest that the reason India is undergoing such a surge is because millions of people have been going to recent festivals, maskless and no attempt at social distancing. The variants are also circulating in India, not helping matters. I think I read their hospitals are on the verge of collapsed.
Africa has been quiet which makes me question. I wonder if they are even collecting and reporting cases and deaths properly? That continent is poor in general so I do wonder.
