Crazy, scary world
The world has just gone crazy. It seems like that everyone did not handle the covid era very well; consequently, violence is popping up everywhere.
We now have a new violent war to add to the Russian-Ukraine war that is still going on. I’m not seeing as much horrifying news coming out of Ukraine ever since they have managed to turn their troops on to the Russian troops. Now, how that war ends though, I haven’t a clue.
Now we have a new war: Israel versus the Hamas. The news coming out of Israel is horrifying. The Hamas just broke through the barriers and butchered everybody: men, women, and children. It didn’t matter who. It is said some of the children were beheaded.
Who does that?
And the Hamas is supposed to be religious? Their butchery defies that claim.
Over the weekend I was just tied to the news, trying to learn what could have precipitated this ugliness, so I didn’t write here. I just didn’t know enough about the recent history. I just knew that over the last few years, the news has pictured the Israeli as not treating the Palestinians very well, but I don’t recall ever reading the Israelis performing butchery or even killing anybody. It was more of maltreatment.
I had to refresh my memory that the Hamas were still regarded as terrorists which accounts for their savagery. They are along the lines of the Taliban and ISIS, two particularly barbaric groups of sham religious followers. If they were trying to win the Palestinians’ freedom, they were going about it the wrong way.
Frankly, I’m not even sure that was the purpose of the attack because logically, it just doesn’t make sense to attack Israel in such a barbaric way. With Israel’s history of living amongst countries trying to eliminate them, or at least oust them out of Israel, and the more recent rising antisemitisms, such a barbaric attack will only drive the Israelis to go all out and try to eliminate the Hamas so that they can’t perform such an atrocity again. It’s a security issue.
And I don’t blame them for wanting to eliminate the Hamas. What the Hamas did was out of bounds of decency. Yes, if the articles of the last few years are to be believed, Israel needs to modify their approach on the Palestinian issue, but that is not for now. First, it is to ensure their safety.
So, the idea of brutally attacking civilian Israelis to obtain freedom for the Palestinians is ludicrous. All it does is heighten the Israelis resolve to protect themselves. So, what was the purpose of the attack?
The only thing I could think of is just to be cruel, to slake their murderous instincts. It can’t be to help the Palestinians. It seems more like they don’t care about the Palestinians.
From what I have read about the Gaza, it is the size of Washington D.C. It has a population of 2.2 million; as a comparison, Washington D.C. has a population of 705,749. Gaza lies on the Mediterranean Sea, bounded by Egypt on the South and Israel on the North and East. Both Egypt and Israel have put in blockades, so the Palestinians cannot leave that strip unless the countries give them permission. My understanding is that very few receives such permission.
The articles that I have read over the past weekend have described Gaza Strip as an open-air prison, the most densely populated region in the world, a hell on earth.
In 2005 or 2007, the Palestinians unfortunately voted in the Hamas into power and that was the last election ever given. The Hamas won’t allow them elections. I do wonder if the Palestinians are regretting voting them into power.
After the attack, the Hamas fled back into the Gaza Strip, taking with them hostages – back into the most densely populated region to hide.
Israel is going to try to destroy the Hamas; the Palestinians are unfortunately going to suffer a lot. Already, their homes are being destroyed as the Israelis try to wipe out the Hamas domains. Surely, the Hamas knew this was a possibility.
So, no, I don’t think the Hamas was trying to help the Palestinians with such an abhorrent and senseless attack. It just feels more like satisfying their murderous urge. Most people don’t go around killing babies or beheading them.
And then on top of this, the Harvard student groups profess that the Israelis are 100% responsible for the attack due to their treatment of the Palestinians the past few years. The students need to rethink this. Upon further reading of other articles, I have learned that the student groups were Palestinians, Arabs, Muslims. I don’t know if all of the groups were of Middle Eastern descent, but it starts to make sense why they would support the Palestinians.
Their statement about Israel being 100% responsible needs to be rethought because there is no comparison between the two countries’ actions. While both were bad, the Hamas’ actions were immeasurably worse.
The latest news I have read was that Wall Street executives wanted to know who the students were so they could avoid hiring them.
