Deafening Silence from the Evangelicals
WHERE. ARE. THE. EVANGELICALs?
There is a deafening silence regarding the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the border patrol’s detention camps. I haven’t heard anything from the evangelicals. If they care about human life, then they should be screaming by now at the cruelty going on.
It’s staggering.
They say they are pro-life, but they are silent about the 6 child deaths in the camps. They are silent about the lack of basic necessities such as showers, toothbrushes, sleeping conditions in the camps. They are silent about the border patrol’s cruel Facebook group.
Tearing children from their parents? Not a peep.
Going against the law and detaining children for over 72 hours? Not a squawk.
Children taking care of babies? Nary a protest.
What is wrong with them?
Are they really pro-life?
Are evangelicals even Christian?
Do they not understand that silence means they condone the cruelty?
We are inching closer and closer to Nazi-type atrocities. Some of those who had lived through Nazi Germany said two years ago that the current time is very similar to the Nazi era.
History is calling. When the Trump era is over, you will be asked on which side you stood with. Republicans, evangelicals, make your decision. If you find what is going on abhorrent, leave the Republican party and denounce evangelicalism. You have to, you have to, in order to remain decent.
As Charles Blow of the New York Time so eloquently wrote in “It’s the Cruelty, Stupid”:
“But I also know that history is sitting in judgment, that when this dark era draws to a close, an accounting must be made, a record made. None of us will be immune.
The questions will come without room for equivocation or adjustment: Where were you when the bodies floated in the Rio Grande? What did you say when this president bragged about assaulting women and defended men accused of doing the same? What was your reaction when he saw very good people among the Nazis? Where was your outrage when
thousands died in Puerto Rico? What did you do? What did you say?…
I plan to say, or have my work say, that I never faltered, that it never became normal to me, that my heart bled as well as my pen.”New York Times,“It’s the Cruelty, Stupid”, Charles Blow, July 4, 2019.
The winds of history are blowing.
