He needs to be removed from office
Why? He can’t be trusted.
He is a fighter (oh, boy is he a figher) and he is now in desperation mode, fighting like a cornered animal. His back is up against the wall and he will do anything to avoid the potentially hellish future he is facing. He has already resorted to criminal threats to Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and he has incited insurrection, so we know laws do not impede his behavior. There is no barrier to what he will do and he could do anything in the week and a half remaining in order to stay in power. Twelve days is too long for him to stay in power – we cannot trust him to avoid any further damaging actions.
He needs the protection of the presidency from the lawsuits he potentially faces. Cy Vance and Letisha James of New York have already told him that they are gunning for him. There has been other calls from Democrats to try him for other offences. He also runs the risk of financial troubles as it has been reported Deutsche Bank is looking to call in his loans. Finally, his properties do not make money and his brand is basically trashed.
Consequently, once he leaves office, his life could become hell; thus, he is desperate to stay in the office of the Presidency as protection.
I’m under the impression that the 25th amendment would be faster route to his removal than impeachment, so if that is the case, then try to get him out of office via 25th amendment. Unfortunately, I’m hearing that Mike Pence is reluctant to do so. I don’t know why all of the sudden he wants to show loyalty to Trump because he is done with the base; he has no future with them. Removing Trump might gain him other constituents, better constituents, constituents who understand the rule of law.
If Mike Pence and the cabinet do go forward with the 25th amendment route, we should still also do the impeachment because I’m hearing that with impeachment, we can prevent Trump from ever holding office again.
And that’s what the country needs: his permanent disbarment from office. He’s too dangerous to be trusted with power.
But that is not going to be enough because he has cast some kind of spell over his fans, we need to cut off as much as we can his communication with his followers. If there is any legal way, we must try to compel Facebook and Twitter to permanently ban him from their platforms so that his connection with his followers are cut. I think I read that Twitter has permanent banned him so we may already be halfway there.
But Trump isn’t the only problem. Trumplican voters are a huge problem; he couldn’t have come into power without them. They will continue to vote in these types of politicians until a light bulb is turned on, so we have to figure out how to re-direct their value system.
Aside from Facebook and Twitter, the news media is probably a prime influencer of the Trumplican thinking. I don’t know what is legal so I’m just throwing out ideas. One idea is to find a legal way of barring the Murdoch family from ever doing business again in the US, which would necessitate the close down or sale of Fox News to someone else. The Murdoch family is responsible for the continuing dissemination of falsehoods surrounding the coronavirus and the election and so should be charged for the crime of deception. As a matter of fact, there should be something similar to “truth in advertising” – maybe “truth in news”. What a concept! But we need to spell it out because Fox News has been so egregious in their lies and it’s obvious that journalistic traditions no longer work. That “truth in news” would also cover AON, Breitbart, Newsmax, etc, including their owners.
The Murdoch family isn’t the only one who should face legal consequences. The legal system should also hit hard on the so-called “newscasters” who spread the lies regarding the coronavirus and the election: Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Laura Ingraham, Jeannine Piro, Maria Bartiromo, and Lou Dobbs. Maybe even include Rush Limbaugh, although I don’t know if he has been spreading lies, but it’s a good bet he has.
Once that media of falsehoods is shut down, maybe the Trumplicans will start to gain the facts necessary to make proper decisions. They can start turning to more reputable sources of information and we can turn away from the abyss.
Next, we need to reprimand or get rid of those cynical lawyers and politicians who abuse the legal system or the political process.
For example, Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani should be permanently disbarred for pushing frivolous cases in the court system. They lost fifty-nine out of sixty cases because they could provide no real evidence of election fraud. In one case, Rudy Giuliani even said that he was not asserting fraud. So what was he asserting? He was just wasting the court system’s time. Even Republican judges and Trump appointed judges ruled against Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani. To pursue up to 60 cases without solid evidence is a gross abuse of the system.
The 17 state attorney generals and Ken Paxton, who brought Texas suit against Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Wisconsin should also be permanently disbarred. The idea of states suing other states simply because they do not like the way a state conducts their elections is ridiculous. I don’t really know what those state attorneys was hoping to achieve from that stunt but Ken Paxton probably was hoping to receive a pardon from the president.
The Trumplicans who played the game of objecting to the state electors should be expelled, if that is possible. I’m hearing it is, so if we can do it, we should to send a strong message that playing such games is antithetical to statesmanship and is what led us to the riot in Congress. We came close to losing democracy and we should hold those Trumplicans who played a role in deceiving the Trumplican voters.
Alright, we got a lot of work to do in cleaning out the dirty players. It’s going to be a long hard road and it may be decades before our culture is fixed. The Never Trumpers, the Republicans who were sorry they voted for Trump, the progressives and the moderates are going to have to band together to fend off the Trumplicans and to convince them to choose a better way. We are only at the beginning of the long road back.
