He’s Got It: Covid’s Latest Victim
O.M.G. The horrors just do not end.
The news is stunning but it really shouldn’t be so surprising since he has been holding rallies without masks and social distancing. It was just a matter of time.
The problem is he’s in his 70’s, he’s what they call fat, and he has some heart disease (he takes some kind of medication), so all of this does not bode well. The positive is he has access to the best medical care and his doctor suggested he stay at the hospital so that doctors can be readily available if his condition turns for the worse. Right now, he just has mild symptoms.
Of course, he is known as a liar and his administration is no better, so some people ask “why should I believe that he is sick?” The conspiracy du jour is one where he is trying to avoid another debate by being sick since the last one was panned.
At the present time it seems real he is sick.
I’m hoping that this turn of events sink in with his base and make them realize that this virus is real and should be taken seriously. If he gets sick enough, such that it scares him, he might have a conversion and start demanding mask mandates. I read an article earlier today where some politicians, mainly Republicans, became converts after they became seriously sick in the hospital (Democrats do not need to become converts to the masks; they are already following the medical guidelines).
So, this state of affairs might have a positive outcome. Not all supporters are going to buy in because they are thinking more about masculinity issues rather than whether the virus is real. But hopefully, some will wake up and realize that it is time to take this virus seriously and start social distancing and wearing masks.
Besides, multiple high level Republicans have reported positive test results in the last few days: Hope Hicks, Melania, Mike Lee, Ronna McDaniel, anyone else?
Fall is upon us; the initial signs of the third wave is here; and the virus is spreading.
I guess I was tired last night because there were two things I wanted to write down:
- First, I was really concerned about Joe and Jill Biden and any attendees at the debate. I was more concerned about them than I was about Trump. Even though he has tested negative, Joe is not out of the woods yet, and for my comfort, it will not be until next week that I feel comfortable that Joe et al. has not caught the virus. It was too soon yesterday to know if he truly did not catch the virus at the debate. He cannot catch the virus.
- I read that Trump knew or had forewarnings that Hope Hicks might be infected with the virus Wednesday morning, and yet he went to a New Jersey fundraiser Wednesday or Thursday evening. It sounded like he knew of the potential risk and yet proceeded to put other people at risk. Not good, not good. I wonder how the donors feel about not being apprised of the state of affairs? I would think they would want to know and then be able to make the decision to attend or not, but Trump took that self-determination away from them.
- Trump’s family went to the debate and they all took off their masks even though they were took by a medical person to put on masks. They chose to ignore the warnings. If they catch the virus, it is all on them – they shoulder the responsibility for ignoring the recommendations.
Other news have been popping up today (Saturday) surrounding Trump’s positive results. Really, two news are at the forefront of my mind today and thus cannot seem to focus on coming up with a new post for here: 1) Trump’s health and 2) the new storms churning in the Atlantic/Caribbean.
First, there was a statement that Trump’s conditions was “concerning and that there is no clear path to recovery.” Oh boy, that sure does not sound good. There are also hints that he may have had to be on oxygen on Friday, further indicating a more serious condition, more serious than the doctors let on Friday.
But there was a video where Trump was out walking toward a helicopter to take him to the hospital so he was well enough to walk. That was encouraging. Also, I read that later Friday night, he put out a video to say “I’m doing fine” – another encouraging sign. Typically, when folks get in trouble with this coronavirus, they have difficulty breathing and thus cannot speak much because they are trying to breath. Talking requires breath. The fact that the President could say something with no difficulty is a good sign.
There is also a swirl of confusion surrounding when the President knew he was infected – reading between the lines hints at as early as Wednesday morning; the public was told late Thursday night/early Friday morning – so a possible egregious time gap.
Next, there has been a drip drop of high level officials announcing their positive results: Kellyanne Conway, Chris Christie, Bill Stepian, Ron Johnson, Thom Tillis. It looks like the virus is spreading amongst the Republican party and signs point to the Rose Garden get together last Saturday (September 26) where most everybody was maskless and not social distancing (people were hugging). This event may be the first super spreader event for the Republicans. The growing number of positives increases the odds of at least one death.
Like I said yesterday, fall is here and the virus is spreading.
Now, there were some people indicating that they did not believe Trump was ill; instead they suspected that he wanted to get out of another debate or some other conspiracy theory. That’s what happens when you are known for 20,000 lies (I don’t know the latest count but it’s a high number): you just lose all credibility. And the doctors providing health updates are not succeeding on generating trust; already there is a confusion surrounding on just when Trump knew he had the virus.
But I think it’s real – he does have the virus. The tell for me is that he has been quiet. No twitter during Friday or today so he has to be seriously ill. The man has no discipline so if he were feeling fine, he would have tweeted something during Friday and today. He can’t help himself. So, yes, I believe it’s real.
Now Trump supporters: they appear to still be in denial or something. It is hard to say what they are feeling other than adrift without the President’s tweets. They may be wondering if it is real or if this is another QAnon play or something. I’m hoping that if the silence goes on long enough, some might wake up and realize that this coronavirus is no joke. It is serious business and they better get with the program on wearing masks and social distancing. Having parties or social gatherings need to be put on hold, possibly until next year – next spring? I’m hoping that this event is the equivalent to a smack on the head.
Storms – there are a couple of weather perturbances in the Atlantic and Caribbean and I’m not feeling good about them. So, it looks like another two weeks of anxiety and hoping that a bad storm does not pass my way. I already had one but I was lucky enough to not suffer bad flooding in my area.
There goes my productivity.
I’m so tired of this climate change but it’s not going away.
