I hate the world we’ve built

Tonight hurricane Ida is barreling down the Gulf to hit one of the southern states – Louisiana for now – Sunday afternoon. Tonight is going to be a sleepless night as I worry where the hurricane will hit.

When I was growing up, we would get warnings of level 1 or 2 hurricanes and those I thought were scary. Threes were rare and 4’s and 5’s practically non-existent in my life. Now, these storms ramp up to level 4 with some frequency. Ida is expected to hit as a level 4, which I can’t imagine.

This is the world we’ve built. We are undergoing constant fires and heat waves out in the West, flooding in the Midwest and Southeast, and hurricanes in the South. Everything is extreme. All because we’ve spent years – decades – denying the existence of climate change, so nothing was done.

Now, climate change is here – not in 2030 – but NOW. It is just going to get worse as we transit through time toward 2030.

But climate change is here NOW.

I hate the world we’ve built.
