Let peace reign!
Whew! I’m so glad there were no violence at the No Kings March throughout the US during the past weekend. With what was going on in L.A., I feared we were entering a highly combustible period over the weekend. The marches and the birthday parade was not a good combination.
But it ended up being peaceful for the most part. There might have been 2 or 3 spotty, minor violence or rioting but the majority of the protests were very peaceful.
I heard the count was 5 million people, so 5 million people protesting and nearly nil violence was a remarkable feat. I am relieved that the military was not required to show up in force.
The only event that marred the day was the shooting of politicians in Minnesota very early in the morning. I did wonder if that was a sign of things to come, but no, it was a very unfortunate event.
Some Democrats were killed so immediately, the story tagged the shooting as political violence. Now that we’ve had a few days for investigation, it turns out the suspect appears to be a Trump supporter. That’s 3 out of 4 (3 attempted assassinations of Trump last year, and the latest assassination) for the MAGAs (not Republicans). The suspect also appears to be very “religious” – there are clips of him talking in that religio-fundamentalist manner.
We successfully passed this past weekend. We have at least 3 and a half more years to go (or roughly 182 weeks).
