May 15, 2025 tornadoes

I think I read somewhere that this tornado season has been the most destructive since in over 10 years. Yesterday there has been some really destructive nighttime ones hitting Kentucky. Nighttime are the worst since people are in bed and often don’t hear the warning.

Friday 5/16/2025 was the nighttime hitting Kentucky and I think the daytime hitting Missouri. Today, I thought I saw something for Texas and for Illinois.

Today, I saw the videos showing the destruction in Kentucky (London, Kentucky). Houses look totally demolished, like nothing standing, and there were a few signs of foundations showing. Just the foundation. Trees are just wrecked and there were a few debarked.

So, that is a strong tornado. I’m no expert but I’m thinking EF4 because the damage are just extensive. And heartbreaking.

This was at night.

The last I heard was that 21 was killed but that could be the combination of the Missouri and Kentucky tornadoes.

Okay, I just found out that Arkansas has finally received the go ahead to receive FEMA assistance! Woohoo!

The odds increased that Kentucky will receive assistance too. Arkansas is #46 in terms of income. Kentucky is marginally better at 45. These are not wealthy states and should not bear the burden of rebuilding alone.

This is going to be a rough year with the tornado season already off to a destructive start. Then add on top of that the potential impact from tariffs. There is still talk of empty shelves despite a 90-day reprieve from the full effect of the 145% tariffs. We’re still getting the 10% or 30% tariffs.

Having the damages from the tornadoes plus the increased prices from the tariffs is going to make life increasingly difficult for people.

[Note: I’m still working on my other project so I am trying to get that done first before generating extensive posts. Besides I saw some distressing videos this morning on the topic of AI and the impact on the future. So, don’t feel like doing anything.]
