OMG
OMG, I can’t believe we actually reached here – Joe Biden is actually President and Kamala Harris is actually the Vice President. Back in November when Joe Biden was declared President, I was not ready to celebrate yet because of what I feared would come next. Oh boy, if I knew then what I know now, I really would have been afraid.
I saw videos of people celebrating in the streets and I cried. I wondered why I was crying because I knew I was happy but feared that happiness would be snatched away. Then the news analyst started to discuss how odd it was to see Americans in celebrating in the streets as if we were a third world country just liberated from an awful regime. While I would say our experience was not as bad as that, I do think we would have experienced it in the next four years if Biden had not won. I don’t even want to contemplate what would have happened if he had lost.
I don’t think the Trumplicans really understand what they were signing up for – they have no clue, no big picture feel of what could have happened.
Voting for Trump is like those senior executives and investors standing by CEOs Ken Lays and Jeffrey Skilling while they lied about the health of the company. The senior executives and investors reaped a lot of profits and earned a lot of money, but in the end, the company imploded. And those senior executives probably suffered a hit to their reputation.
Voting for Trump is like those Germans standing by their Hitler and turned their eyes away from the cruelties, torture and mass killing visited upon the Jews, all because the economy was good for them and they had a comfortable living. But in the end, the country was devastated as the American and Russian troops overran their country.
A good economy and a good life is not a good reason to turn your eyes away from cruelties, corruption and criminality.
Yesterday, I did a little celebration since Joe and Kamala actually successfully got pledged in as President and Vice President. So a small celebration is in order.
But we’re not out of the woods yet.
Most of the Trumplicans still view the election as stolen and roughly 45% of the Party supports the insurrection. We have a lot of unhappy people out there and could be in for a period of internal domestic terrorism.
Yes, that is what the Trumplican party has become: a party of domestic terrorists. It’s hard for me to envision average everyday person – people I already know – inciting or supporting violence but they’ve kind of fallen into it.
Another reason for just a small celebration is that on Tuesday, the last day in office for the last President, America crossed another threshold in the coronavirus journey: 400,000 Americans have died in a year from this virus. It is speculated that by February we will cross the half a million threshold. At the end of the day on Tuesday, US stood at 404K dead and the next highest was Brazil at 211.5K and then India at 153K. What an ignominious distinction.
But the good news is that the case infections and hospitalizations, and maybe even deaths, appear to be leveling off. The Midwest had done a good job of getting control of the spread, bringing it down and most of the West were also successful at keeping the spread at bay. California appears to have finally got a control, once its resident started to see the dire situation their hospitals were in. California’s infection levels are now trending downward.
The Northeast are still trending upward but they are doing so at a lower level and may be approaching the level off point.
The South, especially Texas, seems to be the only region of the US that has not done a good job of doing what is necessary to keep the infection rate, hospitalizations and thus deaths down.
And there is a new variant of the virus out in the US now, thus the question becomes with the trending downward beat the transmissibility of the new variant? The old version of the virus was already so infectious that it is hard to imagine something even more infectious but the new variant apparently is. The projection is that by March the new variant will be the dominant version spreading the communities. If the South can’t get its act together, and I’m talking about including average everyday Americans, not just the leaders, then the South is going to be hammered mercilessly. Unfortunately, the South is where the most virulent Trumplicans live, so I’m having a hard time imagining the South being successful at doing what’s needed to be done.
And unfortunatley, I live in the South
It’s frustrating the level of “stupidity” (for lack of a better term because they are not really stupid but it is a special kind of unwisdom) I have to live with.
I understand the problem with lockdowns because people have to make a living in order to get food and maintain a roof over their head. But masks? They want to have the freedom to breathe on their fellow citizens and potentially make them sick? That’s a special kind of stupidity (yes, it is a selfishness too).
The last thing to mention is there apparently a meltdown going on in the QAnon world. They are stunned that there were no mass arrests of the Satan-loving Democratic liberal pedophiles and no martial law announced. They are depressed that their Dear Leader did not retail hold of the presidency and instead is going to Florida.
Their predictions of victory did not come true.
“Trust the plan” they said.
Except the plan didn’t work.
First of all, if the Democratic leadership were really part of a global group of pedophiles, I would think that they would have been arrested a lot sooner than four years later – we would have kids’ lives and mental health in danger if an investigation was going on for so long. To me it didn’t make a lot of sense for an investigation to take so long.
It was a bunch of “malarky” and now the Q’s will have to wrestle what it means to have lived and believed such nonsense. Some will probably come back to reality, with “tails between their legs”, but others will probably go even deeper into the rabbit hole.
