Peaceful weekend at No Kings 2
Now that a couple of days have passed, it looks like the event on Saturday was very peaceful which is a relief.
I’m always amazed that a large gathering of people whose purpose is to protest can be peaceful.
So far, they have been peaceful despite some news of attempts to rile up the protestors.
But these protests remind of one maybe a little over a decade ago.
Tea Party Protests
The tea party protests were loud and peaceful, but there was one salient difference:
They brought their guns with the implied violence that could spring up. That was frightening.
Frankly, it made a small group of Republicans appear violence prone. Fortunately, they managed to contain themselves and no guns went off.
The No Kings protests were billed as a non-violent event, and my understanding is that the organizers specifically said no weapons were to be brought to the event. Frankly they wanted to make sure no one could grab a reason to call in the military and start occupying cities due to “violence” and “hell”.
Another thing this event reminds me of is…
Well, not the event itself, but the response to the event.
When I in elementary, I used to read my brother’s captivating stories. He is younger than me and he really could tell stories. The stories always had a surprising ending.
You could say, they were a must read.
Except for one thing. He had a proclivity to include stuff about vomiting, peeing, pooping everywhere. His stories were great except for that element. Those bathroom elements tended to ruin the stories.
He was 6 or 7 years old and was writing puerile stuff.
I might have been 9 or 10 and I was setting a high bar for him to uphold. Even as a child I thought the pooping stuff was juvenile.
So…just saying.
