Robots in the science labs

I came across this article a few weeks ago about a robot that could perform experiments in a lab, and from the experiments and machine learning, decide on what other experiments to perform.

Yep, robots are coming for the scientists.

At this present time, robots can’t make the executive decisions on what kind of problems to pursue and initiate the pursuit, but it sounds like, once the experiment starts, the robot then proceeds in search for an answer to whatever question needed to be answered.

While the robot might make some scientists a little nervous that their jobs are in peril, the researchers consider it more of a research tool than a human replacement. Humans will still be needed to consider the problems to solve, as well as designing the experiments that the robot will run to reach a solution.

But I imagine it’s the junior scientists, the one running the experiments for the lead or senior scientists, that would be most in fear of this new development.

Maybe in research driven laboratories that is not overseen by shareholder driven companies those junior scientists can work side by side with the robots, but labs working for shareholder companies? The bottom line will take precedence.

Okay, there are two storm systems out in the Atlantic/Caribbean so I’m kind of “stressing out”. I think this week is going to be light on posting since I’m having a hard time focusing on what needs to be done.

Next week those storms are supposed to turn into hurricanes at some point so I’m going to be preparing for them. We’ll see if by the end of the week if I still have electricity. If not, it may be a couple of days or weeks before posting starts back up again.

Also I’m revamping this website with a new theme since the other one may be too old. WordPress has undergone multiple changes (Gutenberg editor for one) and I fear that the theme will break at some point. The creator of the theme has been updating the theme to make it work with the new WordPress changes but they also have been creating new themes. Unfortunately, I didn’t find one that I liked so I had to go elsewhere.

I found a new theme that I like but I do have to learn how to use it and to fix some older posts to make them work with the new theme. Some things kind of broke. Usually, these themes work better with a fresh site – I have an older site, so themes, plug ins, or page builders are not working.

This revamping might the reason why my posting decrease in the future.
