Winter Storm coming my way

I’m settled in to await the winter storm Fern. It is supposed to be an historic storm.

All I care is that the electricity holds over the next 2 or 3 days. I remember 2021 when we had a polar vortex(? not sure) go deep into Texas and caused our electrical grid to implode. The grid was very close to meltdown and so the commission had to initiate rolling blackouts in the midst of the deep freeze.

The number of fatalities is in dispute with a range of 246 to 702. I didn’t realize it was speculated to be as high as 702, but I do remember the 200 ballpark.

We’re not supposed to have the same level of catastrophes, but we all have PTSD from that event. Every time a storm is supposed to come our way, our governor has a conference call with the news to describe the actions being taken and to assure us the grid will hold.

It’s amazing how some events just stay in you.

Hard freeze is Monday and Tuesday morning. By Tuesday noon, the worst of it should be over.

Is this part of climate change? I have no idea, but it could be part of a swinging pendulum theory I have. As the climate starts to change and gravitate towards a warmer world, the climate system starts to act erratically between hot and cold until it arrives at a much warmer state. I imagine the climate system as a pendulum that has been put into motion to oscillate to a new equilibrium.
